Welcome to the Maps Section!

There is much to learn from reading maps.  In this section, you can look at different types of maps of California.  Some maps show where cities and governmental boundaries are located, and others illustrate the topography of California.  Maps are more complex than they may seem at first.  Historians use maps to understand how people conceive      Make sure to play around with the layering maps and find out where your favorite fruits were grown in California.

Questions to think about when looking at the maps.

What does this map show?

Who do you think made the map?

What did they want you to think?

Do the maps contradict each other?

How much impact does the environment or topography have on agriculture?  Were pears and peaches grown in Death Valley?

Were is most of the water located in California?  Is it near the largest cities?
